How we handle the personal information of customers and visitors. We comply with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act and other applicable Canadian privacy laws.
Ozmotics is operated by Optrics Engineering. We take the privacy of our customers and website visitors seriously. This policy describes the personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and how you can ask us to access or correct it. The policy applies to Ozmotics, its parent company Optrics Engineering, and to any service providers acting on our behalf.
Personal information is any information that can identify a specific individual. That includes name, mailing address, phone number, email, age, sex, marital and family status, identifying numbers, financial information, and educational history. It does not include the name, title, business address, or business phone number of someone acting in their professional capacity.
We only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for the activity we are carrying out. Typical reasons we collect information include:
We collect personal information directly from you whenever practical. In some cases we may also collect it from other sources where you have consented or where the law allows us to do so.
When you visit ozmotics.com, we collect technical and usage information through cookies and similar technologies. This may include:
We may combine this information with other data to better understand visitor interests and to send communications that are more relevant. You can opt out of marketing communications at any time using the unsubscribe link in those emails.
We will let you know when we are collecting information from you, except in cases where you volunteer it for an obvious purpose, such as filling out a contact form.
We ask for your consent before we collect, use, or disclose personal information, unless the law allows us to do so without consent. Where you volunteer information for an obvious purpose, we treat that as implied consent.
For information we collected before January 1, 2004, we assume consent for the purposes for which it was originally collected.
Express consent (in writing, verbally, or electronically) is obtained when the information is sensitive. For other categories we may rely on opt-out consent. You may decline to share information, decline to be contacted further, or remove yourself from a marketing list at any time.
You may withdraw your consent on reasonable notice unless we need the information to fulfill a legal obligation. Withdrawing your consent may mean we are unable to continue providing certain products or services to you.
The law allows us to collect, use, or disclose information without consent in specific situations, for example to investigate a breach of agreement, collect a debt, respond to an emergency, or comply with a court order.
We use personal information only for the purpose for which it was collected, except where the law authorizes another use. If we want to use information for a new purpose, we will ask for your consent again.
We take steps appropriate to the sensitivity of the information to protect against loss, theft, unauthorized access, copying, modification, or improper disposal. Paper records are shredded when no longer needed; electronic records are securely deleted.
We rely on customers to keep their information accurate and up to date. If you notice an error, contact us and we will correct it. We may ask for your request in writing.
We retain personal information only as long as is reasonably required to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected, or as required by law.
You have the right to ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, to ask how that information has been used or disclosed, and to request correction of any errors or omissions.
In some cases we are required to refuse access. For example, we cannot give you access if doing so would reveal the personal information of another individual or the confidential business information of a third party. We may also refuse access where the information is subject to solicitor-client privilege or was provided through mediation. If we refuse access we will tell you why and, where possible, provide the parts we are able to share.
Send written requests to our business manager (see contact information below). Include enough detail for us to identify you and the information you are asking about.
We will respond to most requests within 45 calendar days. If we need more time we will let you know why. We may charge a reasonable fee for providing information; we will tell you the fee in advance. There is no fee for correcting errors.
Optrics Engineering complies with Quebec's Act to Modernize Legislative Provisions as Regards the Protection of Personal Information (commonly known as Law 25). The principal commitments under that law are summarized below.
